A credit union built for people, not profit.
We are a member-owned financial co-operative. Since 1989 we have served our members, not shareholders, with fair savings, lending and mortgages backed by real support.
Not a last resort. A smarter choice.
Credit unions are often seen as a safety net for people who cannot get finance elsewhere. We are changing that. Capital is for everyone, whether you are saving for your first home, looking for a fair loan, or want a mortgage from a lender that genuinely cares. Ethical finance should never mean settling for less.
To help our members build financial resilience by being a trusted partner of choice for ethical savings, loans and mortgages.
Over 35 years, and still growing.
Founded in June 1989, Capital Credit Union began with a simple idea: that people deserve a fairer place to save and borrow, run by an organisation that answers to them. Any profit we make is returned to members, never paid out to shareholders.
Founded as a co-operative
We began in June 1989 as a community financial co-operative, created to give people a fairer place to save and borrow.
Grown with our members
Today we are one of the UK's largest credit unions, with over 36,000 members and £42 million in assets, all owned by the membership.
Open across the UK
Our common bond became employment-based, so anyone working in the UK can now join. Membership is open more widely than ever before.
Not-for-profit, built to benefit you.
100% member-owned
You are an owner, not just a customer. Members have a say in how the credit union is run, one member, one vote.
Not-for-profit
We answer to members, not shareholders. Any profit is returned through fairer rates and stronger services.
We build savings, not just debt
Members save alongside their loan repayments, so many finish their loan with a savings pot already growing.
A full financial home
Save, borrow and mortgage in one place. One relationship, with no early repayment fees on most loans.
People, not algorithms
Real people make our decisions and answer your questions. Members rate us 4.89 out of 5 on Smart Money People.
Your money is protected
Eligible savings are protected up to £120,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
No early repayment fees apply to most personal loans, excluding mortgages. There are no set-up fees, and loan protection cover is included as standard, subject to eligibility and policy terms.
Led by people who know their members.
Our senior management team runs the credit union day to day, accountable to a volunteer board and, through them, to the members.
